Modern politicians should more often recall the true history of the Great Patriotic War - a veteran

May 9, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The victory over fascism was achieved thanks to the unity of the peoples of the multinational Soviet Union, believes a participant in the Great Patriotic War, retired Colonel Alexander Afanasyevich Dikoy. He expressed his point of view in an interview with a BELTA correspondent. Together with his comrades-in-arms, the veteran took part in a celebratory rally dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Victory, which took place in Vitebsk. "Now young people are looking for some new truth about the war, but the truth is that Russians and Georgians, Belarusians and Jews, Uzbeks and Latvians fought for their united Motherland," emphasized Alexander Afanasyevich. He himself is from the Bryansk region, began the war as a young lieutenant in 1941 in Sevastopol, traveled the front-line roads of Europe, served in various parts of the Soviet Union after the war, and then stayed in Belarus. "The fascists knew that only by dividing people by nationality could they conquer the state. And if the Soviet Union had not stood in the way of the enemy, the current world would be completely different," believes the veteran. In his deep conviction, today's generation of politicians should more often recall the true history of the Great Patriotic War. There are few living witnesses left, but it is their memories, not the speculations of pseudo-scientists, that should become the source of knowledge about the heroic past. -0-
