The list of historical and cultural values of Belarus for 2010 was supplemented by almost 480 objects

February 18, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The state list of historical and cultural values of Belarus for 2010 was replenished with 472 material objects and 6 intangible ones, bringing the total to 5382 objects. This was announced today by the Deputy Minister of Culture of Belarus Viktor Kurash at a meeting of the final board of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Department of Culture, a BELTA correspondent reports. "Historical and cultural heritage is the foundation of any nation, strengthening the connection between generations, therefore, we must strive with all our might to preserve such objects," Viktor Kurash emphasized. In this regard, he noted the need to intensify the work of local authorities in transferring estates and other objects of historical and cultural value to investors. "The transfer of estates is not an end in itself. It is an opportunity for the development of tourism services based on them and, along with this, the preservation of these objects," the Deputy Minister stressed. Viktor Kurash also touched upon the issue of the activities of specialists in the protection of historical and cultural heritage. Currently, such a position is introduced only in districts where there are more than 50 objects of historical and cultural value. In order not to overlook regions with fewer such objects, the Deputy Minister proposed introducing such a position to oversee three or four districts. Another pressing issue on this topic was the discussion of the quality of work of specialists in the protection of historical and cultural heritage. "The documents submitted to the ministry contain many inaccuracies, errors in the spelling of the surnames of the owners of historical and cultural heritage objects, their addresses, and other data," Viktor Kurash stated, adding that such "employees should raise the level of their activities." -0-
