Energy workers have begun installing SPLIT meters in the Vitebsk region. What are their advantages?
However, technological progress does not stand still. Manufacturers of electricity meters are constantly developing and implementing innovative technologies. Approaches are being applied to create intelligent networks with the ability to remotely read electricity meter readings for individual housing development areas when reconstructing or building new 0.4 kV networks. The first "smart" meters have also appeared in the Vitebsk region. For example, in the settlement of Torchilovo, Orsha district, the staff of the "Orsha Electric Networks" and "Energosbyt" branches commissioned an ASKOE based on meters with a split architecture, which are also called SPLIT meters. The region's energy workers install and maintain modern metering devices free of charge.
A SPLIT electricity meter is an electronic intelligent device that is structurally divided into two parts. The measuring part (measuring unit) performs all the functionality of a multi-tariff meter. This part of the meter is installed in a place inaccessible to the consumer, usually near a power line pole on the power wires leading to the consumer. The consumer part (indicator device) is installed in any place convenient for the consumer and performs the function of displaying readings. The meter accounts for active energy in the forward direction and is equipped with a disconnect relay. The meter has long-term memory; even if it is completely de-energized, the data is saved. SPLIT meters are integrated into the ASKOE system and, after connection, transmit information about energy consumption to a personal account. Readings can be viewed from any computer or mobile device.
Electricity meters with a split architecture have a number of advantages. They practically eliminate the possibility of hidden unauthorized (uncontracted) consumption and allow monitoring of the power consumed by the subscriber. With the help of a built-in contactor, it is possible to remotely disconnect or connect the subscriber. The measuring unit of such a meter is fixed at a considerable height, which minimizes the probability of its damage, both intentional and unintentional. The use of an information display module when taking readings eliminates the possibility of the subscriber and the personnel of the power supply organization coming into contact with voltage.
In addition, due to lower installation costs, the cost of organizing accounting with a split architecture is 50-70% lower than external accounting with the meter cabinet located at the property boundary or outside it.
