Sports facilities in the Vitebsk region are planned to be named after prominent athletes of the region

The names of prominent athletes born in the Vitebsk region are planned to be assigned to significant sports facilities that will be built in the region or opened after modernization. This was announced today to journalists, answering a question from a BELTA correspondent, by Viktor Bynkov, Executive Director of the NOC representative office in the Vitebsk region.

This idea has found support from the regional executive committee and representatives of the sports community, and the first facility where it will be implemented will be the renovated boxing hall in the central sports complex of the regional center. This facility will be named after the famous Vitebsk boxer, Olympic champion Vyacheslav Yanovsky. In the near future, the boxing hall is planned to be opened after major repairs. At the initiative and with the direct participation of the regional NOC representative office, information dedicated to the renowned Vitebsk athlete will be used in the decoration of the hall. "This will provide an additional moral incentive, and will discipline the young athletes training in such a facility in a special way, because it is impossible to train poorly in a hall named after Yanovsky," Viktor Bynkov is confident.

Perhaps, in the near future, the region will see a wrestling hall named after Igor Kanygin or a biathlon school named after Svetlana Paramigina, he added.

In recent years, several interesting projects have been implemented in the region to perpetuate the names of distinguished sports figures and to promote the sporting achievements of the region's natives. And in the near future, another significant step will be taken in this direction – perpetuating the names of coaches who have trained Olympic medalists from ordinary Vitebsk boys and girls. "Today, a project for the modernization of the Vitebsk Region's Alley of Olympic Glory is ready, which provides for the creation of a commemorative sign with the names of our renowned coaches," said Viktor Bykov. The commemorative sign will be made in the form of a sports cup, with the names of the coaches placed on special plaques on its walls. In addition, the modernization of the alley involves enriching the spatial complex with diverse information about athletes and the development of sports in the Vitebsk Region. The project is planned to be implemented by the end of the current year.-0-
