Athletes from the Vitebsk region will participate in 10 sports at the 2019 European Games in Minsk
Over 4,000 athletes from 50 countries will come to Minsk. At the large-scale forum, which will be held from June 21 to 30, 185 sets of medals will be awarded in 23 disciplines across 15 sports. Competitions in 8 of them will be qualifying for the XXXII Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020, and the boxing and judo tournaments will be held as European Championships. Representatives of Belarus, including those from Vitebsk region, will compete for awards. They have passed a tough selection and have every chance to reach the podium.
— Candidates were selected based on their results at international competitions and rankings and were approved by order of the Ministry of Sports. However, it should be taken into account that there is still time before the start of the Euro Games, so changes in the list of candidate athletes are possible, — said Petr Nemenenok, Deputy Head of the Sports and Tourism Department of the Regional Executive Committee. — As of today, 34 athletes from our region have been included in the list of candidate athletes for the European starts in ten sports (basketball, Greco-Roman wrestling, athletics, trampoline gymnastics, judo, karate, cycling, etc.).
