After 70 years, a pearl has once again shone in the necklace of Vitebsk's Christian churches - the Holy Resurrection Church

July 10, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. A Divine Liturgy with the participation of Metropolitan Filaret of Minsk and Slutsk, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus, is being held today in Vitebsk in the recreated Holy Resurrection Church, a BELTA correspondent reports. After more than 70 years, a pearl has reappeared in the necklace of Vitebsk's Christian churches - the Resurrection Church. The church was built in 1772 in the traditions of late Baroque. The refinement of the forms and lines, the rich decor of the building's facades made an indelible impression on the parishioners. The architect, whose name remained unknown, managed to place the church in such a way that it organically fit into a small plot of land at the corner of the intersection of two streets. The Resurrection Church was one of the main decorations of the historical part of Vitebsk, but in 1936 it was destroyed. There are 11 bells in the church's belfry. Such a set of bells is considered large. It includes heavy bells - blagovests, medium - altovye, or podzvonniki, - and small - trelnie, or, as bell ringers call them, tinkers (their weight is only 8 kg). The interior decoration of the church is not inferior in beauty to its exterior appearance. The painting was done by artists of the Vitebsk diocese and is dedicated to the main milestones in the life of Jesus: Nativity, Baptism, Crucifixion, Resurrection, Ascension. The sacred faces are made in the technique and style of the 16th century. The icons for the iconostasis were painted by masters of the Moscow Patriarchate. The decoration of the church is the polycandelon - the central chandelier. Its diameter is almost 3 m, and its weight is 600 kg. The polycandelon was made with funds from a local patron. -0-
