After decades, the Western Dvina will become navigable again
May 19, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. After decades, the Western Dvina will become navigable again. Work on cleaning and deepening the fairway has begun in the Vitebsk region, the director of the municipal unitary enterprise "Capital Construction of Vitebsk" Mikhail Mishko told a BELTA correspondent.
The tender for the work was won by the republican unitary exploitation and construction enterprise "Dnieper-Bug Waterway" from Pinsk. In accordance with the project, the riverbed will be cleaned and five berths will be built for several kilometers from Blokhin Bridge to the Park of the Soviet Army. All work is planned to be completed this year, but the first three berths will appear by July. The cost of the work at current prices will be Br2.7 billion.
It is planned to launch two motor ships, which are being built in Pinsk, along the deepened fairway. Thus, residents of the city and guests of the "Slavianski Bazaar" festival will be able to take a fascinating walk and admire the historical part of the city from the water surface. -0-
