Satellite navigation systems will monitor passenger transportation in Lepel and Glubokoye

February 4, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. Satellite navigation systems will begin to control passenger transportation in Lepel and Glubokoye districts of Vitebsk region in 2010, Deputy General Director of the Republican Automobile Transport Territorial Unitary Enterprise "Vitebskoblavtotrans" Sergey Zalessky told a BELTA correspondent. In accordance with the project implemented by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Belarus on the use of global navigation systems, onboard devices for equipping buses in Lepel and Glubokoye have already been purchased, and in the near future, control over the movement of vehicles will begin to be carried out using high technologies. As Sergey Zalessky noted, automated control and management of vehicle movement improves the quality of passenger service, contributes to the safety of transportation, and improves the technical and economic performance of transport. Navigation systems allow for prompt response to schedule disruptions and coordination of transportation. This year, work will continue on equipping private carriers in Orsha, Novopolotsk, and Polotsk with satellite navigation systems. State automobile transport enterprises in these cities implemented the systems last year, Sergey Zalessky explained. In Vitebsk, transportation is also controlled using a global navigation system. Given the increased number of motor transport enterprises and private carriers using global navigation systems, "Vitebskoblavtotrans" intends to create a unified dispatch center this year, which will collect all information about the movement of vehicles in the region, allowing for more efficient management of transportation. In Vitebsk region, passenger transportation is carried out on more than 800 routes. In 2009, "Vitebskoblavtotrans" transported over 970 million passengers. -0-
