Stable operational situation and crime reduction: Andrey Lyubimov spoke about the work of law enforcement officers in the Vitebsk region in 2023
The operational situation in the region remained stable last year: no emergencies or sharp changes in the crime structure occurred, and public safety was ensured during cultural and mass events, including those of international importance, said the Head of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Regional Executive Committee, Major General of Militia Andrey Lyubimov.
– The total number of crimes has decreased. All murders, cases of grievous bodily harm, rape, and robbery have been solved, – said the Major General of Militia. – At the same time, cybercrimes have increased. Most fraud cases are committed using computer technologies. For these purposes, criminals often use social media accounts and virtual marketplaces.
The region's police officers performed well in the sphere of illicit drug trafficking: five channels for the supply of prohibited substances were blocked, and nine premises adapted for growing high-quality cannabis were identified. In the line of the Internal Affairs Directorate for Combating Economic Crimes, the most common crimes were bribery, embezzlement or misappropriation, and abuse of official authority.
