An iron removal station was opened in Obol, Shumilino district
– Before the facility was commissioned, the iron content in the local drinking water exceeded the norms by four times; today, this station brings the water quality up to regulatory standards, – reported Alexey Khvalko, General Director of UP "Vitebskobvodokanal".
The construction of the iron removal station in Obol was financed by a loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. OAO "Gomelpromburvod" commissioned the station in five months. It is capable of purifying 55 cubic meters of water per hour.
The latest water quality test results show that the iron content at the outlet of the purification filters decreases by 10 times. The station is fully automated, designed for continuous operation, and does not require constant personnel presence.
Water iron removal stations are being built in the Vitebsk region as part of the "Clean Water" subprogram of the State Program "Comfortable Housing and a Favorable Environment" for 2016–2020.
– In the plans for the next five years, there are 80 iron removal stations to be built. Work is being completed in the settlements of Usvizh-Buk, Tolochin district, Ekimani, Polotsk, and in Sokolniki near Vitebsk and Senno. An iron removal station is under construction in Bolbasovo, Orsha district, and we plan to start work in Zaslonovo, Lepel district, this year. For now, we are trying to provide high-quality drinking water to large settlements with a population of one thousand or more people, – said Yuri Dyadyolo, Head of the Housing and Communal Services Department of the Regional Executive Committee.
The honorable right to launch the iron removal station in Obol, which is home to over 2300 people, was granted to Vladimir Terentyev, Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies.
