A "Old World Ball" will bring together Novopolotsk youth on March 2, BELTA was informed by the youth affairs department of the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee. The venue for the first city ball, organized in the best traditions of similar events held in the 18th-19th centuries, will be the Novopolotsk Palace of Weddings, located in a picturesque place and most suitable for these purposes due to its ambiance. Dressed-up girls with elaborate hairstyles and elegant evening gowns will arrive here, accompanied by dashing gentlemen. At the entrance, the young people will be greeted by an imposing doorman, and the event will be hosted, as it should be, by an equally impressive master of ceremonies. Just like several centuries ago, the ball will be a wonderful opportunity for young men and women to demonstrate their manners, conversational skills, and ability to dance the waltz, quadrille, or polonaise. The only thing that will prevent the youth from completely forgetting about time on this wonderful evening will be the jury, whose members, instead of strict parents or aunts, will monitor the behavior of the young people to name the best couple at the end of the ball. The event is organized as part of the Year of Youth, which was declared in 2011 in Novopolotsk. Public organizations and wedding salons of the city provided assistance to the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee. The young people themselves also prepared actively, diligently attending dance master classes on a competitive basis for a whole month. As a result, out of more than 70 applicants, only the 20 best couples received a coveted invitation to the ball. The interest shown in this event by the youth, the public, and local authorities allows us to say today that it will become an annual event in the future, the City Executive Committee noted. The main goal of holding the Year of Youth in Novopolotsk is to foster civic responsibility among young people, develop their creative, scientific, and professional potential, and actively involve them in socio-economic transformations in the city. Throughout the year, over a hundred diverse events and regional and republican campaigns will be held for young Novopolotsk residents. In addition, during the Year of Youth, the city authorities intend to open a city youth employment center, promote secondary employment for schoolchildren and students, and implement other projects that contribute to instilling a culture of healthy lifestyles and respect for family values in young people. -0-
