Work has begun on the preparation for the regional competition for the awarding of the honorary title "Person of the Year of the Vitebsk Region", the procedure for which is determined by the decision of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

Among the main criteria for awarding the honorary title are the significance, relevance, and effectiveness of the results of activities, production indicators, and professional and business qualities of the candidates. In addition, when selecting applicants, data on administrative liability, absence or presence of a criminal record are necessarily taken into account.

Candidates for victory are determined based on the results of work during the year. Documents for their nomination are accepted at city and district executive committees on a territorial basis until December 31 of the current year inclusive. Subsequently, the participants will go through a selection "sieve", which will result in the determination of 50 winners. They will be awarded the honorary title with a special diploma and a monetary reward.

The professional merits of the best representatives of labor collectives, organizations, and institutions from all regions of the oblast will be recognized in 5 nominations: "Industry, Trade and Services, Financial Activities, Small and Medium-sized Businesses", "Agro-industrial Complex, Environmental Protection, Forestry", "Housing and Communal Services and Road Management, Construction and Architecture, Fuel and Energy Complex, Communications, Transport and Information", "Social Sphere (Social Protection of the Population, Culture, Education, Science, Sports, Healthcare, Youth)", "Ensuring Legality and Law and Order, Prevention and Elimination of Emergencies, Activities of Local Government Bodies and Self-Government, Public Organizations".

By the way, the competition is held annually with the aim of stimulating creative work, promoting innovative ideas, and advanced experience. It is designed to emphasize the value of the merits and achievements of the region's residents and their contribution to the common cause of regional development. Throughout the history of the honorary title "Person of the Year of the Vitebsk Region", one thousand people have been honored. It is usually awarded only once, but the laureates justify it day after day.

The names of the region's best representatives will be announced in February 2020. According to tradition, billboards with their photos will adorn the settlements of Vitebsk region throughout the year.
