The cost of tickets for Belarus-Russia trains will be reduced by up to 50%
The cost of tickets for trains between Belarus and Russia will be reduced by up to 50% from February 10. This was announced at a briefing by Andrey Kashko, First Deputy Head of the Passenger Service of Belarusian Railways, as reported by BELTA.
«
The heads of the Belarusian and Russian railway administrations held negotiations at the end of January and agreed to significantly reduce the cost of travel by rail between Belarus and Russia from February 10», — said Andrey Kashko. He specified that taking into account the existing tariff plans and discounts developed last year with Russian railway workers, the reduction will be up to 50% for almost all categories of carriages.
Thus, ticket prices from Minsk to Moscow, for example, will decrease by Br200 thousand to Br1 million, depending on the carriage category. Additional discounts depend on the day of ticket purchase, passenger's seat in the carriage, group size, and travel distance. More detailed information on tariff plans can be found on the Belarusian Railways website.
As Andrey Kashko noted, Belarusian Railways and Russian Railways decided to reduce ticket prices to increase the competitiveness of international railway transportation and attract additional passengers.
«
Today, we have exited the competitive segment with our travel prices», — stated the specialist. He pointed out that railway transportation tariffs are formed in currencies such as the Swiss franc.«
Its fluctuations and those of our national currency against more significant currencies dictate the conditions, and the cost of travel has been increasing recently», — explained the First Deputy Head of the Service.According to Andrey Kashko, Russia is the most significant partner of Belarusian Railways in passenger rail transportation. In the international segment, they account for about 70%.
“
Without a doubt, the most in-demand destinations are Moscow and St. Petersburg – their share in transportation with Russia is around 80%”, added the specialist. This is precisely why, he emphasized, the main efforts of Belarusian Railways are focused on working in this direction. It is planned that reduced fares for the Belarus-Russia route will be in effect throughout the year.
