Capital investors plan to revive a military town in the Gluboksky district and launch a mini-hydroelectric power station in the Postavy region

Столичные инвесторы планируют возродить военный городок в Глубокском районе и запустить мини-ГЭС на Поставщине
Minsk investors have arrived in the Vitebsk region with interesting projects in the field of renewable energy sources, as well as in the organization of ecological fuel production. The objects of investment give special significance to these facts: businessmen intend to revive and adapt the former military town in the Gluboksky district for civilian life, as well as to restart a mini-hydroelectric power station in the Postavy district.

Investors acquired this property at various auction sites in the regional center. The former military town in Podsvilye has been transferred to district communal ownership and was put up for auction in April 2018. The property complex occupies 40 hectares and includes over 200 objects, including 38 buildings and structures of various functional purposes with a total area of over 10.1 thousand sq. m, and 27 tanks, including underground ones, with a total capacity of almost 30.8 thousand cubic meters. This economy was acquired by "Lesnaya Servisnaya Kompaniya" LLC from the Minsk region. The organization specializes in logging. According to its representative, while considering business diversification, the company drew attention to Podsvilye, where it found opportunities for production activities in several areas.

For the development of the territory, the flagship project chosen is the production of PiniKay briquettes – this is fuel made from pressed wood waste. The territory of the former military town fully meets the requirements that must be considered when organizing the production of a product, the sales of which are also seasonal.

Briquettes are neat multifaceted bars with an internal hole, which facilitates their ignition and active burning. The product is unpretentious to raw materials and enjoys stable demand with a low level of competition in the Belarusian market. At the initial stage, the investment volume will be at least 280 thousand euros, and it is planned to create at least 50 jobs. With the prompt resolution of organizational issues, it is planned to launch the equipment in the second half of 2020.

To maximize the territory's potential, the company intends to open several more production facilities. Immediately after the deal is finalized, the investor plans to install an experimental furnace to refine the technology for producing charcoal. This is a product with higher added value, in demand in the metallurgical industry, among others, and its raw material is PiniKay briquettes. In addition, options for organizing activities for the disposal of oil-containing waste, as well as in one of the areas of the agro-industrial sector, are being considered.

To implement the project in the Postavy district, the capital's investors have registered a legal entity in Shumilino. This is not accidental: according to the company representative, along with the revival of the mini-hydroelectric power station on the Zarazhanka River east of the village of Alioshino, they are considering the possibility of participating in three more projects in the field of hydropower in the Vitebsk region.

The stimulus for increased investment activity in green energy was the recently signed Decree No. 357 "On Renewable Energy Sources," which is aimed at the balanced development of all types of electricity generation, taking into account the commissioning of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant.

At the Alioshino mini-hydroelectric power station, the investor plans to completely replace the equipment, repair the building, and then put the station into operation. The next stage in the project implementation will be the organization of production activities using the electricity generated at the mini-hydroelectric power station.
