Novolukoml may become the capital of the Chashniki district

Столицей Чашникского района может стать Новолукомль

The possibility of granting the city of energy workers the status of a district center instead of the current district center of Chashniki was announced today by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, Alexander Kosinets, during a joint meeting of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee and the Presidium of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies, BELTA correspondent reports.

In 2013, Novolukoml will celebrate the 50th anniversary of its founding. Large industrial enterprises are located here, and the Lukomlskaya GRES operates. The city's population is about 16 thousand people. In the current district center of Chashniki, approximately 9 thousand people live, and there are no large enterprises. According to Alexander Kosinets, the question of moving the district capital to Novolukoml is justifiably raised by the local authorities. "We will discuss this issue, we will see how it can be resolved. However, Chashniki also needs to be developed," the governor emphasized.

Among the small cities of the region in 2013, priority in development will be given to Miory, celebrating its 500th anniversary, and Gorodok, which will host the republican festival-fair of agricultural workers "Dazhynki" in 2014.
