One does not need to delve deep into the archives to recall a different Vitebsk. It all depends on each person's personal life experience: some may recall a quiet square in the heart of the city on Victory Square, while others will clearly remember the tram tracks that crossed the city along Lenin Street, and much, much more. Today, the newly rebuilt walls of temples and churches are quite firmly inscribed in our consciousness. The conclusion is one: the city lives and breathes. Yet, just 20-30 years ago, Vitebsk was, if not to say faceless and gray, then extremely pragmatic and functional. It was around this time that the club of antiquity enthusiasts "UZGOR'E" appeared in our city, and it must be admitted, it appeared at the most opportune moment.

The "UZGOR'E" club, then led by Vitebsk historian and local lore expert Igor TISHKIN, included people of various ages and professions. They were united by one thing – a passion for the history of their native city, as well as a desire to revive its cultural image. And for the way Vitebsk delights us today, we can largely thank the members of the "UZGOR'E" club. Very recently, Igor TISHKIN, together with the "Vitebsk" Cultural Center, reissued the booklet "VITEBSK CASTLES" – not only the personal work of the historian but also the creative legacy of that very club of antiquity enthusiasts. The staff of the "Dukhovskoy Kruglik" exhibition hall considered this a landmark event and an excellent reason to gather the members of the "UZGOR'E" club together again within their walls and recall what happened a long time ago and yet so recently, but has already entered the city's chronicles.
