The EU project "Support to Regional and Local Development in Belarus" presents draft Strategies for Sustainable Development for all six regions and invites interested citizens and organizations to express their opinions through an online survey.

This is the first experience in Belarus of developing strategic documents at the regional level. The draft strategies have been prepared by regional experts and working groups chaired by regional executive committees, in close cooperation with representatives of the business community, research and educational institutions, as well as non-governmental organizations. For the first time, the principles of partnership and broad participation are being used in the development of strategic documents, which is intended, according to the initiators, to make the strategies an agreement of public consensus reflecting the vision and needs of the people living in these territories.

The most important stage in the work on the strategies will be an open online survey, which will be conducted from June 5 to June 25, 2015. Based on its results, each document will be finalized.

It is planned that after the entry into force of the Law on State Indicative Planning of Socio-Economic Development of the Republic of Belarus, the strategies will become official documents setting the framework for the work of regional public administration bodies.
