March 23, Minsk / Tamara Dovgalyuk - BELTA /. The Polotsk Hydroelectric Power Station will be built by the Russian Open Joint-Stock Company "Foreign Economic Association "Technopromexport". The turnkey construction contract has already been signed, Deputy General Director of RUP "Vitebskenergo" Vladimir Diklov told a BELTA correspondent. The Polotsk HPP with a capacity of 23 MW will be built on the Western Dvina River. "The architectural design has already been developed and approved. Active work is underway to determine the design and estimate documentation for the construction of the facility," the deputy director noted. The contract value is about $100 million. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will finance the facility. According to Viktor Antonik, Head of the Prospective Development Department of RUP "Vitebskenergo", it is known that when choosing hydro units for the future HPP, the Russians preferred the Czech company Mavel. The hydraulic structure will be equipped with standard equipment that will meet all modern environmental requirements. The PIT Kaplan flow-through turbine installed at the HPP will prevent oil from entering the river. It is expected that the construction will be completed by 2014. It is planned that four hydroelectric power stations will be built on the Western Dvina. The Polotsk HPP will be the first of them. Then 3 more hydroelectric power stations will be built - Verkhnedvinskaya, Vitebskaya and Beshenkovichskaya. The total installed capacity of the four HPPs will be about 120 MW. -0-
