The construction and commissioning of a waste processing plant in Orsha will qualitatively improve the waste management system.
The construction and commissioning of a waste processing plant in Orsha, as well as other similar facilities in the country, will qualitatively improve the waste management system. This was stated today by the Minister of Housing and Communal Services, Andrei Khmel, during a meeting with the staff of the Orsha Special Motor Transport Enterprise.
The head of the department answered the questions of the special motor transport enterprise workers, which concerned road and construction topics, in particular, the construction of a waste sorting plant in Orsha. The facility is planned to be commissioned in May, which will be an important event for both the Vitebsk region and the entire country. "I hope that by the summer we will commission it and achieve those significant changes in the solid waste management system in the region and adjacent areas, which people will positively assess and which will affect the enterprise's economy. The waste management system itself should qualitatively improve. These are primarily environmental aspects, because everyone understands that the cheapest way to manage solid waste is to take it and preserve it. But we will move towards maximum utilization, and by 2030, there should only be 31 landfills left in the country. These landfills will be accompanied by large regional waste sorting plants. This is for better control, and for deeper and higher quality waste processing," noted Andrei Khmel.
The process, according to him, is considered comprehensively: from an environmental and economic perspective. Since it is important that the enterprises to which such landfills in the regions will belong are profitable, and the tariffs for solid waste do not increase significantly. "We need to find this golden mean and work with it," the minister added.
The landfill in Orsha will become interregional, processing waste from the Tolochin and Dubrovno districts as well. The plant will solve one of the important issues for the entire region - it will process bitumen-containing waste, and from it, produce bitumenized cardboard and bitumen crumb, which will find a second life in the construction of facilities and roads. Annually, the complex, where almost 130 new jobs will be created, will process 60 thousand tons of solid waste per year.
The minister's meeting with the staff of the Orsha enterprise took place during a unified information day. After the dialogue, Andrei Khmel visited the construction site of the plant.
