The construction of the metallurgical plant in the Miory district is entering an active phase
The construction of the metallurgical plant in the Miory district is entering an active phase, and the general contractor for the work will be selected in September, said Vladimir Tishchenko, technical director of MMPZ-Group LLC, which is implementing the project.
This investment project is one of the largest currently being implemented in the Vitebsk region. "The long and multifaceted preparatory stage is already behind us. Slightly more than 40 hectares of land have been allocated for the plant, approximately 2.5 km from the Miory railway station. Currently, the construction of the access road, earthworks for vertical planning, and pile driving for soil testing are being completed. Initial construction work was carried out by local organizations and enterprises; about 45 units of various equipment and machinery are currently employed at the site. And next month, we will select the general contractor for construction. This is a large-scale innovative and import-substituting project that is being implemented in stages, in parallel with the design," explained Vladimir Tishchenko.
He added that the construction of housing for future plant workers and specialists is underway simultaneously. The readiness of the first eight-apartment building is 70%, and the foundations for two more have been laid. In total, it is planned to build 6 residential buildings at the initial stage.
The specialization of the new metallurgical plant is focused on the production of tinplate, which is widely used in many industrial sectors: packaging for the canning industry, aerosols, paints and varnishes, etc. Currently, this raw material is entirely purchased abroad. This innovative project will not only eliminate the import of tinplate but also allow its export to other markets (the country's annual demand for metal products is 30 thousand tons, and the planned plant capacity is 150 thousand tons, and within a year after launch, the company expects to increase capacity to 240 thousand tons). The quality of the manufactured products will meet the required European standards.
The completion of construction is scheduled for 2016, with another two years allocated for commissioning and reaching design capacity. The plant will create 500 jobs. The total cost of the investment project exceeds 200 million euros. The general contractor for design is the Lithuanian engineering company MANfuLA, and the equipment supplier is one of the world's leading manufacturers of metallurgical and pipe rolling equipment, SMS Group (Germany).
