Construction of a high-tech pig breeding complex has resumed in Liozno region
According to the project, which has passed environmental review and public discussion, the future complex is surrounded by a kilometer-long sanitary protection zone – there is no housing or any activity within this radius. And at the entrance to the 34-hectare construction site, where powerful excavators and other equipment are operating, the flags of Belarus, Israel, the international AGRIGO group – the general contractor and equipment supplier, and Liozno district are flying.

The breeding complex is designed to produce three-breed young pigs of Landrace-Yorkshire-Duroc breeds for further fattening to a live weight of up to 35 kg, as well as pigs for meat. The sales volume upon reaching production capacity will be 138,355 piglets annually. Buyers will be pig breeding complexes of the Vitebsk integration structure.
– Currently, work is underway on vertical planning, driving and cutting piles, preparation for concreting, and the installation of manure removal systems. Weather permitting, we plan to drive all 1200 piles this year, complete the concrete base of future buildings, and begin the installation of metal structures, roofing, and wall panels in winter. Workers from Vitebsk DSU-45, Minsk SU-96, and other construction organizations of the republic are employed at the site. Soon, there will be an opportunity to employ 15-17 local residents. Work is in full swing from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The seconded builders are housed in Pushki, Liozno, Dobromysli, while those from Vitebsk commute here every day, – says Pavel Orlov, head of the construction site of the international AGRIGO group – one of the leading engineering companies specializing in the turnkey design and construction of high-tech livestock complexes. The company has built pig complexes in the Minsk region: in Sovlovo, Polochany of Molodechno district, Krivichi of Soligorsk, and near Lyuban.
The unified production and technological complex of buildings near the agro-town of Pushki will be specialized according to the functions, age, and physiological characteristics of pigs into 5 workshops. The pigsties will be connected by a gallery for moving livestock, personnel access to workplaces, installation of engineering support, production, auxiliary, and utility rooms. All production processes at the breeding farm will be computerized. Special automated systems will be installed for dispensing dry feed mixtures, and nipple drinkers for watering. Manure in the pigsties will fall through partially slatted floors into underground tanks, emptied every 14 days. Settling lagoons are designed considering the wind rose. As a result, it will be divided into fractions: separated effluents will enter storage lagoons, and subsequently, dry and liquid residues can be used to fertilize fields. Sanitary and veterinary treatment of animal premises using a high-pressure washer and a hot fog generator, and an automated microclimate control system are provided.
The construction of a unit for the production of loose and granulated compound feeds with a capacity of 20 tons per hour is driven by the needs of the breeding farm (when it reaches its design capacity, it will be almost 5 tons per hour), as well as the availability of its own grain base in the farms of the integration structure. Grain will be stored at the Liozno grain storage facility. The unit will provide the herd with high-quality feed, developed according to recipes suitable for Landrace and Yorkshire breeds. This should positively affect weight gain. In addition, the production of compound feed, which is cheaper compared to purchased analogues, will reduce the cost of raising piglets, and its surplus will be sold.
– The capital expenditures required for the implementation of this investment project will amount to 37,9778 thousand euros of own and borrowed funds. The preliminary commissioning date for the facility is December of next year, with the deadline being the first quarter of 2021. The reproducer will offer 75 jobs to the region. The general contractor company will not only train the personnel but will also supervise their activities for two years – until the complex reaches its design capacity. With projected revenue volumes, capital investments, and production costs, the project is economically efficient. Its payback period will be 11.7 years, – concluded Sergey Nalyotov, authorized representative of the managing organization OJSC "Vitebsk Meat Processing Plant", chief construction specialist.
