The structure of sown areas in the Vitebsk region is formed to meet the fodder needs of animal husbandry
The structure of sown areas in the Vitebsk region has been formed based on the needs of animal husbandry in crop production, and it must be observed in every district. Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev instructed the heads of district executive committees and the director corps on this at a meeting of the regional executive committee.
The structure of sown areas, which has been developed for the region as a whole, is based on the need for high-quality and balanced feed for cattle. Therefore, in each district, it is required to allocate at least 15% of the area for rapeseed sowing, taking into account the number of heads in the public herd, and about another 15% should be occupied by clover. It is also necessary to ensure the sowing of legumes on an area of 15%, as they are good predecessors for grain crops. "This is an ideal sowing structure that can ensure the required crop yields, form the optimal cost of agricultural products, and other economic indicators. Therefore, compliance with the required proportions will be strictly controlled," noted Nikolai Sherstnev.
In addition, the head of the region drew attention to the need to continue work on sowing corn for feed. This spring, about 20 thousand hectares are to be sown for these purposes. Integration structures, which are equipped with specialized units, will be engaged in this. Tractors purchased over the last three years will also be equipped with navigators to ensure control over their efficiency. At the same time, there are more than 6.8 thousand units of agricultural machinery in the farms of the Vitebsk region, so effective organization of work will allow the spring field campaign to be carried out within optimal deadlines. In 2019, the total sown area of agricultural crops in the Vitebsk region will be 788.3 thousand hectares. It is planned to allocate 417.4 thousand hectares for grain and leguminous crops, 110.8 thousand hectares for cruciferous crops, 15 thousand hectares for flax, more than 2 thousand hectares for potatoes, and 80 thousand hectares for corn.
