Student of the Year Chosen in Vitebsk Region
Six representatives of higher education institutions of the Vitebsk region competed for the title of the best in the regional final: Alexandra Zhаvrid (VSMU), Mark Sergeev (PSU), Veronika Bosakova (MITSO), Valeria Romanova (VSAAVM), Kirill Makarov (VSU named after P. Masherov), and Ruslan Novikov (VSTU).
The young people presented personal portfolios, videos about student life, and demonstrated their talents and public speaking skills in creative and intellectual rounds at the competition held under the slogan "Belarus – a source of inspiration!".
As noted by the chairman of the competition jury, the first secretary of the regional committee of the BRSM, Viktor Glushin, all contestants were well-prepared for the challenge. For example, the student of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of VSTU, within the allotted three minutes for self-presentation, managed to showcase all his strengths – he sang, danced, and his performance was very patriotic. Alexandra Zhаvrid combined national flavor and modern rhythms in her creative performance. The girl, a participant of the dance group Infinity, presented a dynamic choreography to the song "Kasіў Yaś kaniushynu". Viktor Glushin also emphasized that the students approached the preparation of their portfolios creatively, using 3-D glasses and holograms. In the intellectual round, participants expressed their opinions on quotes from famous Belarusian writers and poets.
As a result, Ruslan Novikov coped best with the challenges. He took first place and will now represent the Vitebsk region in the republican final of the "Student of the Year" competition, which will be held in Minsk in December.
However, other representatives of our region also have a chance to perform in the capital. The republican jury, based on the results of the regional tours, may select several more participants. It is quite likely that Alexandra Zhаvrid and Kirill Makarov, who shared second place in the regional stage, as well as Mark Sergeev from PSU, who closed the top three prize-winners, will be able to compete for the title of the best student of the year. By the way, last year, it was a student from this university, Dmitry Kukso, who became the winner of the republican competition.
