Students and staff of VGMU embarked on the fifth cycling trip dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus
This year, a new route was developed – Victory Square – Lake Shevino near Lettsy, with a length of 25 kilometers. Vice-Rector for Ideological and Educational Work of the university Olga Syrodoeva and Chairman of the regional organization of the Belarusian Trade Union of Healthcare Workers Vladislav Muzhichenko came to participate in the memorable laying of flowers at the Eternal Flame on Victory Square and to see off the cyclists.
-- Our team of cycling enthusiasts is stable, about 20 people, -- said Olga Arkadyevna. – According to tradition, there will be stops at memorable places on the route where defenders of our Motherland from the Nazi invaders are buried. Participants of the bike ride will lay flowers at monuments and obelisks, and if necessary, clean up the surroundings. And at the final point of the route, where they will stay overnight, cultural and sports events of a patriotic theme dedicated to the anniversary of Victory will be held.
By the way, for the first time, the bike ride route will not be along the highway, but through rough terrain, along forest and field roads. In the Year of Small Motherland, this is especially noteworthy, to have the opportunity to admire the cherished corners of one's land once again, to breathe in the fresh air of forests and fields. And at the same time, to test one's strength in more difficult conditions, to pass the test of endurance.
Among the group of hiking participants, there is only one student, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of General Medicine, Artem Kovalevsky. Artem successfully combines his studies at the university with full-time work as a paramedic at the city ambulance and emergency medical care station. He has been working in the ambulance service for six years, starting from his time at medical college. After university, he plans to become an anesthesiologist-resuscitator. In recent months, he has gained particular popularity in the media due to his active participation in providing medical assistance during the coronavirus pandemic. He easily allocated two days for the bike trip, especially since they coincided with the weekend.
-- For me, this will be a good opportunity to change the scenery, clear my head, -- Artem shared his plans. -- After all, lately, life has been strictly following the formula: work – home – sleep – work. I want to relax actively, communicate with like-minded people, especially since a campfire dinner awaits us, we will play volleyball, darts. And I can stop thinking about anything for a while.
