Students will join the apple harvest at the Tolochin Cannery
As reported by Viktor Bulygin, head of the "Industrial Horticulture" department of the enterprise, the daily harvest is currently around 30 tons, and it will increase to 100 tons during the peak harvesting period. Last year, the work was fully completed by October 12 – 5.7 thousand tons were collected then. This year, due to the May frosts that occurred during the flowering period of the trees, the harvest will be slightly smaller. Apple trees occupy 337 hectares of the garden (total area 640 hectares), predominantly of domestic selection varieties. Among the most popular are "Syabryna" and "Belarusian Sweet".
The majority of the harvest is sold in Russia. Soon it will be time for pears. The massive fruits of the Belarusian "Prosto Mariya" and American "Patten" are pleasing, they have excellent taste and no stony inclusions. By the way, the areas for pears (currently 27.5 hectares) will be expanded starting next year.
Last week, gardeners completed the harvest of black chokeberry. In the summer, they worked on harvesting gooseberries, black and red currants, half of which were processed into concentrated juice, and the rest were sold fresh.
Mainly, Tolochin berries are sold at the Moscow wholesale and retail center "Food City"; residents of St. Petersburg have also appreciated their quality. For example, for about three years now, Russians have enjoyed red currants on the branch. The berries brought a good income to the enterprise's treasury – on average, 1 kg cost wholesalers more than one dollar in equivalent. Now, buyers are lining up for Tolochin apples and pears.
