A bailiff in the Shumilino district misappropriated debtors' money
September 1, Minsk / Viktor Grinkov - BELTA /. The Investigative Committee of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee has initiated a criminal case for embezzlement of particularly large sums against a former bailiff of the Shumilino District Court. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.
The servant of Themis embezzled budgetary funds totaling Br190 million over two years.
The perpetrator managed to obtain a substantial sum through a simple procedure for accepting fines from citizens. According to the law, a court official is obliged to accept the monetary penalty, issue a receipt to the debtor, and deposit the money in the bank. Then, it is necessary to notify the executive committee, which stamps the executed documents. Only after this can the court case be closed.
However, as it became known from enforcement proceedings, the suspect issued receipts for paid fines to some debtors but not to others. He also falsified reporting documents. For this reason, a significant portion of the money did not reach the local budget and ended up in the pocket of the "resourceful" bailiff.
Currently, the investigation is ongoing. The arrested individual has already confessed. He has compensated the state for damages in the amount of Br10 million. According to criminal law, for embezzlement of particularly large sums, this lover of easy money faces a sentence of up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold certain positions. -0-
