During the current harvest, a husband-and-wife crew of Boris and Regina Gornak is working in the fields of the "Vitebsk Experimental Land Reclamation Station of the Institute of Land Reclamation" (VOMS) branch in the Senno district.

The idea to enlist his wife as an assistant came to the head of the family at the end of last year, when he received a new combine harvester. In winter, Regina completed a course for machine operators, mastering the MTZ-80 tractor.

They started the harvest season on June 25th with the threshing of perennial grasses and have been working together in the fields of the farm for over 50 days.

Recently, the couple surpassed the 1,000-ton mark of grain. Representatives of the district executive committee and the district committee of the agro-industrial complex workers' union came to congratulate them.

By the way, Boris Gornak is a highly experienced combine operator, having participated in the regional "Dazhynki" festival four times as a prize-winner of the regional competition. He is satisfied with his wife's work: she helps clean the equipment after a workday, keeps records, and knows which wrench or spare part to hand over.

Sometimes Boris entrusts the steering wheel to his wife. However, for Regina, the daughter of a combine operator, such machinery is not new, and she handles it without any problems. In addition to grain, the crew has 96 tons of grass seeds and 126 tons of rapeseed to their credit. Joint work brings a good income to the family budget.

For July, Boris was credited with about 2.1 thousand rubles, of which 65% is allocated to the assistant. The couple has two children – Dasha and Andryusha. Previously, they boasted to their peers that their dad was a combine operator; now their mother has doubled the reason for their parents' pride.

According to the director of VOMS, Valery Kuchko, two combine harvesters are involved in the harvest. The grain crops have been completely harvested (450 hectares), yielding 2177 tons at a yield of 48.4 centners per hectare. There are 83 hectares of spring rapeseed, 80 hectares of clover, and 4 hectares of oil radish left to be threshed. The farm, which is involved in seed production, employs 32 people. Eight research fellows from the Institute of Land Reclamation also permanently reside and conduct research here. From last year's harvest, the agricultural enterprise sold nearly 1100 tons of elite grain seeds, about 100 tons of super-elite rapeseed, and around 60 tons of perennial grass seeds. The average salary for the first six months of 2019 was 1080 rubles.

On September 5, Boris and Regina Gornak will celebrate their tenth anniversary. Just in time for this day, the harvest will be almost completely finished, after which Boris will participate in laying in the new crop, and Regina will return to her duties of sorting grain.
