October 17, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. The reconstructed central sports stadium will be solemnly opened today in Glubokoye (Vitebsk region), the Department of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Glubokoye District Executive Committee informed a BELTA correspondent. Work on the facility began back in 1999. However, for a number of reasons, construction was frozen. And now, finally, the residents of Glubokoye have received a modern city stadium. It has a football field, an athletics sector, and running tracks with modern surfacing. At the same time, 2.5 thousand spectators can watch the sports competitions, including from the VIP box. In addition, the stadium houses a gym, changing rooms, and offices for doctors and referees. Over Br7 billion was allocated for the reconstruction. The opening of the stadium will give an impetus not only to the further development of elite sports in the district but will also increase the ranks of amateur athletes, according to the district executive committee. About 400 teenagers, residents of the district, are actively involved in children's and youth sports schools, and 10 of them are members of the National Team. Greco-Roman wrestling, athletics, boxing, and equestrian sports are particularly popular among young people. As noted in the Department of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, more than Br70 billion will be allocated for the construction and reconstruction of sports facilities this year alone.
