Y. Kolas Theatre revives the play "Ladzia Rospachi" for V. Korotkevich's anniversary
November 4, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. The Yanka Kupala National Academic Drama Theater is reviving the play "Ladzdzya rospachi" (The Boat of Despair) for the anniversary of Vladimir Korotkevich. Its premiere after a three-year hiatus will take place on the Kolas stage on November 5, Svetlana Dashkevich, head of the theater's literary department, told a BELTA correspondent.
For a long time, audiences were deprived of the opportunity to see this production due to the lack of a suitable performer for the key role of Gervasiy Vylyvakha. Now it has been entrusted to the already experienced actor Alexander Bazuk. Vitebsk theatergoers know him for the role of Gorodulin in Ostrovsky's "The Wise Men," for which he received a theater award for best supporting actor at the end of the 84th theater season. The role of Berezka will be performed by Yulia Krashevskaya and Irina Tishkevich, and Death by Elena Sharebchenko and Honored Artist of Belarus Tatyana Likhacheva. In total, more than 20 actors are involved in the play. The director is Mikhail Krasnobayev. On November 5, he will celebrate his 50th birthday and 25 years of creative activity, so the premiere of "Ladzdzi rospachi" on this day will be a kind of gift for his anniversary.
On November 26, the revived play will be presented in Korotkevich's hometown - Orsha, and on the 27th, the Vitebsk public will be able to see it again.
"Ladzdzya rospachi" is not the only work by the famous Belarusian writer staged on the Vitebsk stage, noted Svetlana Dashkevich. Thus, in 1974, the theater premiered a production based on his work "Zvany Vitsebska" (The Bells of Vitebsk), which was attended by the author himself. In 1978, the tragedy "Kastus Kalinowski" was presented to the audience, and in the 1990s - "Vorob'yinnaya noch" (Sparrow Night). Currently, the theater is working on an adaptation of the play "Leanidy ne vernut'sya da Zyamli" (Leonids will not return to Earth) (the second title of the novel "Nel'ga zabyt'" (Cannot Forget)), which is planned to be presented to the audience in 2011.
Vladimir Korotkevich was the first Belarusian writer to turn to the genre of historical detective. For the novel "Chorny zamak Alshanski" (The Black Castle of Olszany), he was awarded the Yakub Kolas State Prize of the BSSR. He is a laureate of the Ivan Melezh Literary Prize of the Union of Writers of Belarus for the novel "Nel'ga zabyt'," and was awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples. The author's works are distinguished by vivid characters and an exciting, dynamic plot. For their writing mastery and depth, "Kalasy pad syarpam tvaim" (Ears under the Sickle), "Dzikae palyavanne karalya Stakha" (The Wild Hunt of King Stakh), "Khrystos pryzyamlіўsya u Garodni" (Christ landed in Grodno), "Sivaya legenda" (The Gray Legend) became required reading in schools. Many of Vladimir Korotkevich's works have found a second life in cinema. -0-
