Gennady Davydko discussed the topic of drug addiction prevention with the staff of UP "Vitebskoblgaz"
It would seem that this successful enterprise is the least suitable for such a conversation, but, according to Gennady Bronislavovich's conviction, this problem must be discussed everywhere and always.
– According to the World Health Organization, approximately 450,000 people die annually from drug use (this is almost twice the number of victims of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945).
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, in his speech at the Fifth All-Belarusian People's Assembly, said: "We cannot underestimate such an acute problem for our society as alcoholism and drug addiction... After all, this misfortune strikes both specific individuals and families, and the genetic code of the entire nation and the image of the people. Therefore, we must fight for a healthy lifestyle all over the world!" – noted Gennady Davydko.
The importance of the current agenda of the Unified Information Day was also emphasized by Vladimir Terentyev, Chairman of the Regional Council of Deputies, Chairman of the regional organization of the RPO "Belaya Rus":
– Vitebsk region borders three states; on one side, it is a gateway to the European Union, and on the other, to the Russian Federation. Our country is at risk of drug trafficking from abroad and at the same time is used as a transit region. Therefore, attention must be paid to this problem. It is no coincidence that the meeting is taking place in such a team, where people think not only about work but also about how to engage young people in sports and amateur arts, so that thoughts of alcohol and drugs do not arise.
The example of the regional gas company shows how young people grow professionally and personally.
Before the discussion, the chairperson of the Vitebskoblgaz organization "Belaya Rus", Svetlana Volkova, spoke about the work carried out by the public organization in shaping values, moral and spiritual education, and promoting a healthy lifestyle.
Among the interesting events and useful activities are assistance to boarding schools, large families, children, participation in sports events, and the organization of various contests.
Gennady Davydko familiarized himself with the results of one of them – children's drawings on the theme of safety. He also visited the museum halls and was impressed by what he saw.
– Vitebskoblgaz can be called a benchmark enterprise. It is evident that it is successful not only in labor indicators but also in everyday matters. The employees here have a different sense of country and order, – said Gennady Bronislavovich.
Returning to the topic of the meeting, Gennady Davydko gave an example of when he worked as the director of the Kupala Theater, and a young, promising actor died from drugs.
Unfortunately, this scourge also affects prosperous families; modern narcotic substances can form addiction in just a few uses.
Despite serious opposition from the state and law enforcement agencies, tons of drugs are attempted to be brought into or transported through our republic annually. For instance, according to the Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus, the amount of seized drugs last year amounted to 883 kg.
As Gennady Davydko noted, the Decree "On Urgent Measures to Combat Illicit Drug Trafficking" signed by the head of state in 2014 has yielded tangible results. It can be said that the drug situation in our country this year continues to remain controlled and stable.
By the way, in the Vitebsk region, the level of drug addiction is one of the lowest in the republic.
A system for early detection of psychoactive substance users has been developed in the region, including among adolescents.
Hotlines and helplines, including those with the participation of health educators, psychologists, narcologists, and psychotherapists, provide significant assistance in combating harmful addiction. Rehabilitation departments operate in all regions of the republic.
At the end of the meeting, Gennady Davydko answered questions that concerned not only the topic of the Unified Information Day but also the public association "Belaya Rus" and the upcoming elections.
