The therapeutic department of the Shumilino Central District Hospital has reopened after renovation

Bright offices and wards with comfortable furniture, thoughtfully placed lighting fixtures, neat sanitary rooms, a small but cozy dining room — although the atmosphere of housewarming is still felt there, everything is already actively used to restore the health of the residents of Shumilino district who ended up in hospital beds. The renovated therapeutic department is designed for 47 beds, 15 of which are neurological. On average, about 1.5 thousand patients are treated here per year.

As emphasized by the Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Vladimir Terentyev, no matter how economic conditions change, for the authorities, the construction and reconstruction of social facilities have been and remain among the priority tasks. So, the opening of the renovated department of the Shumilino Central District Hospital is, in fact, just another, far from final, stage of large-scale activities aimed at transforming medical institutions in cities and districts. The result of this work is the creation of comfortable conditions for patients and medical staff.

Vladimir Vladimirovich particularly noted that the radical renovation became possible only thanks to the joint efforts of all interested parties.

— There is

There is a good Belarusian word "talaka". This is a therapeutic department – a prime example of how, through "talaka" during 2015, premises with an area of over 600 sq. m were put in order, — said the Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee. — Everyone who could lent a hand.

Indeed, many enterprises and organizations, as well as the local population, contributed to this noble cause. 880 million rubles were allocated from the regional budget, and part of the funds was earned through the hospital's non-budgetary activities. New plumbing fixtures were purchased with sponsorship funds from Shumilin entrepreneurs, reported Tatiana Timoshchenko, Deputy Chief Physician of the Central District Hospital for Medical Affairs. Over 8 million rubles for soft furnishings (blankets, bed linen) were allocated by the regional organization of the Belarusian Red Cross Society. In total, 1 billion 881 million rubles were spent on repairs, furniture, and necessary equipment. The work had to begin in 2013 with the renovation of the roof. Then, in 2014, the enterprise "Vitmedstroy" undertook the interior work. A local Shumilin company was engaged in the installation of windows and doors. A lot had to be done, but the result is worth the effort.

— Today's event continues a series of creative transformations in the region, — noted during the opening of the department the Chairman of the Shumilin District Executive Committee, Alexander Snorov. — Annually, at least 18% of the expenditure part of the district budget is allocated for the maintenance and development

of healthcare. Over the years, significant investments have been made in improving its infrastructure. 8.2 billion rubles were allocated for capital and current repairs, as well as the purchase of new equipment for the Shumilino Central District Hospital, including 5.8 billion from the district budget and 2.4 billion from the regional budget.

This policy, which is characteristic not only of the region but also of the country as a whole, is yielding results. Demographic indicators, which were recalled by the head of the healthcare department of the regional executive committee, Yuri Derkach, serve as evidence of this. Even in the Vitebsk region, which has a particularly large elderly population and where 7-8% of people are over 80 years old in several districts, a decrease in mortality and an increase in birth rates are observed.

— The health status and quality of life of the population are improving, — noted Yuri Nikolaevich. —And if the working-age population gets sick less often, it has the opportunity to create a certain product, develop the economy, and make our lives more peaceful and stable.
