Three CT scanners will be installed in the Vitebsk region this year

Computer tomographs will be installed in the hospitals of Orsha, Polotsk, and Braslav this year, which will fully meet the residents' need for CT scans in the region. This was reported to a BELTA correspondent by Yuri Derkach, Head of the Main Department of Healthcare of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, commenting on a question from a resident of Lepel about equipping medical institutions in the region with this equipment, which was received by BELTA during the "Your Question to the President" campaign.

According to Yuri Derkach, the Lepel district is served by the Novopolotsk city hospital, where a modern computer tomograph was installed in 2018. This year, new equipment will also appear in Polotsk. "The decommissioning of the six-slice tomograph at the Polotsk Central City Hospital was expected, as this unit was outdated and spare parts for it are no longer produced. Therefore, when the X-ray tube failed, the replacement of which was estimated at $78,000, a decision was made and agreed with the Ministry of Health to purchase new equipment for the Polotsk hospital – a 64-slice computer tomograph. It will start operating in the second quarter. The old unit will be dismantled and transferred to a warehouse in Minsk as spare parts for existing equipment of a similar series," he said. Currently, the regional healthcare institutions are equipped with computer tomographs: the regional clinical hospital, the diagnostic center, the emergency hospital, and the multidisciplinary polyclinic in the Yug-7 microdistrict, which opened in early March. The installation of three CT scanners in inter-district medical centers will expand the possibilities for detecting diseases in rural residents, as this equipment will be used not only for diagnostics but also for screening programs that were not previously carried out (e.g., lung cancer screening). Regarding the appeal of the resident of Lepel, whose mother needs a CT scan, Yuri Derkach instructed to investigate and help in the situation. The "Your Question to the President" campaign by the BELTA news agency took place on the eve of the "Big Talk".
