Three new developments from the VSTU Department of Weaving have been implemented in production at the Orsha Flax Mill

Vitebsk State Technological University and Orsha Flax Mill have a long-standing and fruitful cooperation. Last year alone, the Department of Weaving proposed three new technologies for the production of flax-containing yarn, which were implemented in production with the help of the enterprise's specialists.

— The main task was to create products that could not only compete with global counterparts but also surpass them in their properties and appearance. And it has been accomplished, — said the head of these research works, senior lecturer of the department, Natalia Akinidinova. — Decorative fabrics and products have been obtained, which use both traditional flax yarns and cottonized ones. Let me explain what this is: in terms of quality — flax with all its wonderful properties, in appearance — cotton.

Coarse flax fiber is cut into small pieces, and threads are obtained from it that are more uniform, without characteristic thickenings. New technologies allow for the production of decorative fabrics with complex structures — double-layer, volumetric, which are used for making blankets, fabrics of new structures (combination of tapestry and double-layer weaves) for tablecloths with multi-colored design, double-layer jacquard curtain fabrics with a two-sided pattern. In 2014, together with the flax mill, we will continue the development of curtain and multi-colored fabrics for bedspreads.
