Three general secondary education institutions in the Vitebsk region are participating in a pilot project on organizing school meals

The project aims to study the taste preferences of schoolchildren and improve the organization of nutrition.

In accordance with the decree signed by Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko, 21 educational institutions will participate in the pilot project – three in each region and three in Minsk.

In the Vitebsk region, the sites of the republican pilot project will be Gymnasium No. 1 of Vitebsk named after J.I. Alferov, Secondary School No. 2 of Horodok named after A.P. Sobolevsky, and Dobromyslinskaya Secondary School named after L.P. Tikhmyanov of the Liozno district.

The essence of the new approaches is that schoolchildren will receive their first meal later (approximately 3.5 hours after the start of classes), and it will be lunch. Since children come to school having eaten at home, the prepared meals often remain unclaimed.
The number of meals depends on the time spent in the educational institution. Thus, when staying at school for 3.5 to 6 hours, children will eat once, for 6 to 10 hours – twice, for more than 10 hours – three times. At the same time, in educational institutions located in rural settlements, all meals and their timing remain unchanged. It is assumed that the daily and, based on it, the approximate two-week menu will be developed taking into account taste preferences based on the results of surveying parents and students.

The pilot project starts on December 19 and will end on April 30, 2023.
