Three reservoirs in Belarus have been blacklisted as closed recreational areas for swimming
June 12, Minsk /Corr. BELTA/. According to specialists as of June 11, swimming is prohibited in three water bodies in Belarus, the Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health informed a BELTA correspondent.
The "black" list of closed swimming areas includes the Western Dvina River (with the exception of the recreation area of Mazurino Park in Vitebsk, as well as the Luchosa and Vitba rivers).
In the summer months, due to the intensive reproduction of microalgae and mass swimming by the population, the bacteriological quality of water in water bodies deteriorates. During the swimming season, bacteriological water testing in water bodies at popular recreation sites is carried out weekly. Upon obtaining two unsatisfactory water analysis results, territorial state supervision bodies issue a resolution prohibiting swimming. Responsibility for the implementation of the resolution is assigned to the organization that manages the water body.
Epidemiologists have established a standard for the content of coliform bacteria in water bodies, the compliance with which ensures safe swimming. In addition, the water must not contain pathogens or viable helminth eggs. Floating films, mineral oil stains, and accumulations of other impurities are not allowed on the water surface. The water must not have unusual odors, and the content of chemical substances must not exceed the maximum permissible concentrations. -0-
