Thirty people evacuated due to smoke in Vitebsk Regional Clinical Hospital

Thirty patients were evacuated due to heavy smoke at the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Hospital, the press secretary of the regional department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Marina Fando, told a BELTA correspondent. The report of a fire on the second floor of the neurology department, where a major overhaul is currently underway, was received on the evening of November 4 from a security guard of the healthcare facility. Smoke spread throughout the floor, and there was a threat of it penetrating into the rooms on the third floor. Rescuers, together with medical staff, evacuated patients from the hematology department, which was located in the area of possible smoke on the floor above. At the same time, Ministry of Emergency Situations employees extinguished the fire, the source of which was in one of the rooms on the second floor, and took measures to remove combustion products. As a result of the fire, 60 plastic windows and doors, which were stored in a small room on the second floor of the building, were damaged. The preliminary cause of the incident is considered to be carelessness while smoking by an unidentified person. A check is being conducted on this fact, and the damage is being assessed. -0-
