Three children drowned in the Senno district

Three children drowned in a body of water near the village of Lesnikovo, Senno District, Vitebsk Region.

The incident occurred on June 25. In the evening, the Senno District Department for Emergency Situations received a report from the duty paramedic about a drowned girl found on the bank of a body of water 2 meters deep.

Upon arrival at the scene, rescuers found a lifeless girl on the bank of the body of water. Nearby, there were also bicycles and belongings of three children; no one was observed on the surface of the water. Local residents were searching the shoreline at that time.

As it became known, from 3:00 PM, two sisters, aged 11 and 9, local residents, and their 12-year-old cousin, who was visiting his aunt with his parents, were playing near the body of water about 50 meters from residential buildings. Local residents saw the children riding on a homemade raft on the body of water. Around 6:00 PM, the girls' mother went to look for her children. Not far from the shore, the woman saw the body of her elder daughter on the surface of the water. One of the local residents helped pull the girl's body ashore and called an ambulance.

Ministry of Emergency Situations employees and local residents organized a search for the drowned children, searching the bottom of the body of water on foot. The bodies of the deceased children were found approximately 7 meters from the shore.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations reminds that the responsibility of adults for children in the summer period doubles. Parents must know what their child is doing, where and with whom they are playing. Have daily conversations with your children, explain safety rules and rules of conduct in case of emergencies.
