Work semester: 80 students from four higher education institutions in Vitebsk are helping the Tolochin Cannery with the berry harvest
Summer is a time for active recreation. It is important to spend it with the greatest benefit, to rest and to work. This summer, young people from the Vitebsk region have actively joined the labor semester. Agricultural and construction teams have proven to be in demand.
In the Tolochin district of the Vitebsk region, 80 students from four higher education institutions in Vitebsk are helping the cannery with the berry harvest: the student team "Berry Mix" from the P.M. Masherov State University, "Strela" from the Technological University, "Medics" from the Vitebsk State Medical University, and "Vetiki" from the Academy of Veterinary Medicine.
Svetlana Kutuzova, Chief Technical Inspector of the Vitebsk Regional Committee of the Healthcare Workers' Trade Union, monitored compliance with labor protection legislation at the enterprise where the students work.
The results are positive. Students received an introductory briefing and training in safe work methods and techniques. Dormitory rooms with all amenities were allocated for accommodation. Hot meals are organized in the canteen, which is located in the same building. Only 30 percent of the cost of meals is deducted from the students' earnings, and for the best performers, meals are completely free. The students are provided with personal protective equipment, and they are transported to their workplace by factory transport. In hot weather, the students work from 6 to 11 a.m. and then from 4 to 6 p.m. The students are satisfied, and the administration is pleased with the assistance.
