The Center for Future Mothers has started operating in the Vitebsk Orthodox Diocese
March 5, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. A center for future mothers named after the Icon of the Mother of God "Tenderness" has started operating at the Holy Protection Cathedral in Vitebsk, the Vitebsk Diocese of the Belarusian Exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church told a BELTA correspondent.
Every Tuesday, pregnant women, medical professionals, clergy, and sisters of the Diaconal Center gather at the parish building of the Holy Protection Cathedral. Doctors answer questions that concern expectant mothers, and provide practical advice on proper nutrition and behavior during pregnancy. Clergy talk about spiritual connection with one's future child, thereby instilling in young mothers an understanding and attitude towards the child as an image of God.
The future plans of the Center for Future Mothers include continuing educational work, holding a conference dedicated to demographic and ethical issues, as well as addressing topical issues of family, motherhood, and childhood. It is planned to involve schoolchildren and students in the dialogue. Vitebsk medical professionals also intend to continue their cooperation with the church. They are ready to openly discuss Christian values and defend human life. The next meeting at the Center for Future Mothers will be held during the second week of Great Lent. -0-
