A center for migrants will appear on the territory of the military unit of the Polotsk border detachment

A temporary detention center for irregular migrants is being built on the territory of the military unit of the Polotsk Border Detachment. It will be a modern complex with all amenities for living, reported the official representative of the Polotsk Border Detachment, Lieutenant Colonel Denis Glebko.

Construction of the center began in August of the current year as part of the international technical assistance project "Assistance to the Republic of Belarus in addressing issues related to the increase in irregular migrants". The project is funded by the European Union and is implemented by the Representation of the International Organization for Migration in the Republic of Belarus in cooperation with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the State Border Committee of Belarus. Partners include the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the Belarusian Red Cross Society, and the Belarusian Movement of Medical Workers. The main goal is to support Belarus in developing and implementing policies and strategies for irregular migration and asylum, in order to move closer to European and international standards.

The temporary detention center for irregular migrants will be able to accommodate 35-40 people. Blocks for men and women are designed. A separate block is allocated for women, children, and families. A sports ground will be equipped on the territory of the complex. The work is planned to be completed in the spring of 2021.
