A training and professional development center for medical personnel will open at the Republican Tuberculosis Hospital IK-12 in Orsha

March 23, Minsk /Elena Prus - BELTA/. The second Training and Retraining Center for medical personnel in Belarus will open at the Republican Tuberculosis Hospital IK-12 (Orsha). This was announced today at a press conference by Larisa Savishcheva, head of the UNDP project "Support for the State Program 'Tuberculosis' in the Republic of Belarus," as reported by a BELTA correspondent. In places of detention, the incidence of tuberculosis is 7-8 times higher than the national average. Therefore, great attention is paid to improving the quality of anti-tuberculosis care for people within the criminal justice system. It is important that such care is provided competently and in a timely manner, which is undoubtedly facilitated by staff training. It should be noted that within the framework of the project, over 160 employees of the criminal justice system have already been trained, and 6 doctors have undergone training abroad. Renovations have been carried out in the premises of the future information and educational center on tuberculosis at the Republican Tuberculosis Hospital IK-12, and the necessary office equipment and furniture have been purchased. By the way, first-line drugs for the treatment of 200 patients have already been transferred to this hospital, and the treatment of 100 convicts with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis will begin soon. The first Training and Retraining Center for medical personnel opened in January of this year at the state institution "Research Institute of Pulmonology and Phthisiology" of the Ministry of Health. The goal is to strengthen the institutional capacity of the national tuberculosis service and the primary healthcare network by increasing the knowledge and professional training of specialists in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of tuberculosis. The curricula have been developed in accordance with the requirements of the World Health Organization (WHO). Larisa Savishcheva noted that a tremendous amount of work has been done within the UNDP project to train medical personnel in the latest methods of combating the disease. A new "Guideline for the Prevention, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Tuberculosis" has been prepared and will be published soon, which is written in full accordance with international requirements and WHO recommendations. -0-
