September 17, Vitebsk / Olga Bogacheva - BELTA /. A temporary (night) accommodation center for homeless people is planned to be opened in Vitebsk, the deputy head of the social support department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Labor, Employment and Social Protection Committee, Galina Demchenko, told a BELTA correspondent.
The draft decision of the Vitebsk City Executive Committee on its establishment is currently undergoing approval. The staffing levels, operating procedures, and funding sources are being specified.
According to preliminary data, the temporary accommodation center will be located in the building of the former evening school on Zolotogorskaya Street. It will be able to accommodate up to 80 people at a time. The period of stay in the center will range from one to six months. During this time, those in need will be assisted in restoring lost documents and finding employment; the disabled will be helped to receive pensions and be placed in nursing homes. In addition, they will undergo medical examinations and, if necessary, be prescribed treatment.
At the same time, homeless people can already get a real chance to start their lives anew. Since September 17, places of registration for homeless people have been designated throughout Belarus by local executive authorities. Most often, they are located at police departments. Here, citizens of this category will be registered at their place of stay, helped to obtain passports, and informed about further paths to socialization, the deputy head of the citizenship and migration department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Internal Affairs Directorate, Sergey Laptev, told a BELTA correspondent. -0-
