Volunteer assistance centers are being created in the Vitebsk region
– Previously, there were only volunteer groups. Interaction with volunteer assistants allows reducing the burden on the budget, reaching a larger number of citizens in need of assistance, and also providing an opportunity for elderly people with an active life position, who form the backbone of volunteer assistants, to be in demand, which is one of the main conditions for increasing life expectancy, – said Vera Astapenko, Head of the Department of Social Support for the Population and Stationary Institutions of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Labor, Employment and Social Protection Committee.
The Volunteer Assistance Centers have several services for different areas of activity. Depending on the type of assistance provided by volunteers, the Committee for Labor, Employment and Social Protection, together with VSMU and VSU named after P. Masherov, and other institutions, trains volunteers to provide quality services to those in need.
Thus, on October 2, three groups of volunteers, together with the heads of day care departments for the elderly, underwent training at the Vitebsk Emergency Situations Ministry Safety Center. Now, volunteers will actively engage in fire prevention, and prevention of deaths among lonely individuals and people with disabilities in emergency situations.
