CEC: The number of initiative groups for signature collection indicates the possibility of a good alternative in the elections

In Belarus, 446 applications have been submitted for the registration of initiative groups of citizens to collect voters' signatures in support of persons proposed for nomination as candidates for deputy. 350 groups have been registered. This was announced today at the National Press Center by the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission, Lidiya Yarmoshyna.

The largest number of applications for the registration of initiative groups were submitted in Minsk - 120. In the Minsk region, there are 73, in the Mogilev region - 59, in the Brest region - 54, in the Vitebsk region - 49, in the Gomel region - 47, in the Grodno region - 44. "If the indicated persons collect signatures, then we are already talking about good alternative elections," said Lidiya Yarmoshyna.

She informed that at the moment there is already one person in the country who has nominated himself as a candidate for deputy. He claims to represent the interests of voters of the Vitebsk-Gorky Electoral District No. 17.

The head of the Central Election Commission did not make any predictions about the competition that will develop this year in the elections. "I would like there to be competition, and for it to be everywhere, so that we do not have uncontested districts," Lidiya Yarmoshyna expressed her wish. She recalled that in 2016, an average of 4.5 people competed for one seat in parliament.
