CEC recommends placing polling stations on the ground floors

CEC recommends placing polling stations on the ground floors. This was discussed at a meeting of the CEC, where the issue of creating conditions for people with disabilities to participate in the elections of deputies of the House of Representatives was discussed.

The CEC recommends that all polling stations be located on the ground floors whenever possible. Ramps should be installed at the entrances to buildings and premises. Special voting areas for wheelchair users will be created at the polling stations. Visually impaired citizens will be able to use magnifying glasses and stencils.

Local authorities and election commissions will ensure the on-duty presence of volunteers who will assist voters with limited physical abilities and the elderly.

Members of the Belarusian Association of Disabled People, the Belarusian Association of the Visually Impaired, and the Belarusian Society of the Deaf took part in the CEC meeting. They were able to ask their questions and express their suggestions after representatives of regional executive committees and the Minsk City Executive Committee spoke about the creation of a barrier-free environment at polling stations.

Elections to the House of Representatives are scheduled for November 17, and to the Council of the Republic - for November 7.
