CEC registered five candidates for President of Belarus

The Central Election Commission at its meeting registered five candidates for President.

Andrei Dmitriev, Anna Kanopatskaya, Alexander Lukashenko, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, Sergey Cherechen have been registered.

Registration was denied to Viktor Babariko due to non-compliance of the submitted income and property declaration, as well as due to the fact that a foreign organization participated in his election campaign. The CEC also did not register Valery Tsepkalo. He failed to collect more than 100,000 valid voter signatures in support of his nomination. The reason is also that his wife's income and property declaration indicated unreliable information that is of significant importance.

Today, the CEC considered a number of other issues of the election campaign. Thus, the Central Election Commission made changes to the regulations on the procedure for using mass media in the preparation and conduct of elections. The dates and times for radio and television appearances of presidential candidates have been adjusted. As noted during the meeting, the incumbent head of state, running for a new term, refused the time for pre-election speeches provided to him by the electoral legislation. Taking this into account and the capabilities of Belteleradiocompany, the CEC considers it optimal for radio appearances to be broadcast on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:00 to 9:00. The first ones will be on July 20 and 22. Candidates for the highest state post will be able to exercise their right to subsequent appearances on July 27 and 29. On television, candidates will appear on July 21 and 28 from 17:00 to 19:00. As for the televised debates, the CEC proposed to hold them on July 30. The list of print media in which candidates can publish their election programs has also been adjusted. In addition, the CEC held a draw among the candidates to determine the date and time of pre-election speeches.

As reported, the House of Representatives has scheduled the presidential election for August 9. According to the calendar plan, early voting in the election will take place from August 4 to August 8. The Central Election Commission must summarize the results no later than August 19. A second round, if necessary, is scheduled to take place no later than two weeks later, i.e., on August 23.
