A tourist quarter is planned to be built in Glubokoye by Belarusian Written Language Day in 2012
June 21, Vitebsk / Diana Kurilo - BELTA /. A tourist quarter is planned to be built in Glubokoye by the Day of Belarusian Written Language in 2012, the acting director of the Glubokoye Tourist Information Center, Alla Vertinskaya, told a BELTA correspondent.
Glubokoye is one of the most beautiful district centers of the Vitebsk region with a rich history, but its tourist potential is still not fully utilized. As a rule, tourists come to Glubokoye in transit on their way to the famous village of Mosar or Braslav region. Meanwhile, in the city center, on September 17 Square, houses built in the 19th - early 20th centuries and architectural monuments have been preserved - the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Holy Trinity Church. On this square were the houses where the Polish writer Tadeusz Dołęga-Mostowicz and the aircraft designer Pavel Sukhoi were born and spent the first years of their lives.
The Glubokoye District Executive Committee has developed a project that involves creating a tourist quarter on September 17 Square. It will house a bus parking lot, souvenir shops, a retro cafe, museums of famous natives, and a tourist information center. According to preliminary estimates, the cost of the project will be about Br10 billion, with only one-fifth of the costs falling on the local budget. The remaining funds are planned to be raised from investors. For example, branded stores of Glubokoye enterprises - the condensed milk plant and the meat processing plant - could be opened in the old houses.
Alla Vertinskaya noted that the project has found support in the ministries of culture and sports and tourism, which will provide methodological and organizational assistance to the region.-0-
