The tournament of Belarusian folk dances will be held within the framework of the International Festival of Traditional Culture "Braslavskiye Zarnitsy – 2015"

Турнир белорусских бытовых танцев пройдет в рамках Международного праздника традиционной культуры «Браслаускiя зарнiцы – 2015»

It was held for the first time last year. Performers from all districts of the Vitebsk region took part in the tournament. This project generated great interest from both amateur groups and spectators. Therefore, it was decided to continue it, and this year lovers of folk choreography will gather again in Braslav.

Its features were discussed at a recent seminar at the regional methodological center of folk art. A distinctive feature of many Belarusian everyday dances is their plot. They reproduce scenes from peasant life, are based on folklore, and illustrate well-known folk songs. Choreographic vocabulary is passed down from generation to generation.

Researchers note that for a long time, Belarusian dance was little known, even in its homeland. Now, folk dance is experiencing a rebirth, with modern youth enthusiastically dancing the polka, krakowiak, "Lyavonikha", "Vo sadu li…", "Kahanachku" and "Koketka". The Regional Methodological Center for Folk Art is engaged in the revival and popularization of Belarusian choreographic folklore. Thus, classes in everyday dances, seminars, and master classes are held. In particular, recently, master classes were given by the leaders of the folk ensembles "Medunitsa" of the Liozno district, "Krynitsa" of the Rossony district, "Na rostanyakh" of the State College of Culture and Arts, and others.
