Around 47,000 dollars were found on a counterfeiter in Vitebsk
Law enforcement officers seized tens of thousands of counterfeit dollars from a resident of Vitebsk, who had previously been prosecuted for human trafficking and drug dealing.
Two minors, born in 2002 and 2006, led the police to the criminal. On January 18, the children attempted to exchange three 100 US dollar bills at a bank branch in the city, the authenticity of which raised doubts among bank employees. Police officers were called to the branch.
According to the conclusion of experts from the Vitebsk Inter-district Department of the State Forensic Examination Committee, the three seized 100 US dollar bills were not manufactured by the enterprise that issues banknotes and securities of the USA, but were made by deep intaglio printing from photomechanical printing plates. The serial numbers and treasury seals on the counterfeit banknotes were made by flat offset printing.
During the questioning of the minors, law enforcement officers established that the banknotes were given to them for exchange by an acquaintance of the mother of one of the children. A Vitebsk resident born in 1978, who already has convictions for human trafficking and drug dealing, was detained by police on suspicion of committing the crime.
At the addresses identified during the questioning of the minors, investigators, together with operational officers, conducted inspections, which resulted in the seizure of 477 100 US dollar banknotes.
As reported by the website of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, a criminal case has been initiated against the suspect by the city department of the Investigative Committee under Part 2 of Article 221 of the Criminal Code (counterfeiting on a particularly large scale).
