The solemn opening of the administrative building and sports hall of the district sports children's and youth school of the Olympic reserve took place in Glubokoye.
Thus, the third and final stage of the major reconstruction of the city stadium has been completed. The residents of Glubokoye and the ceremony participants were congratulated on this event by the Minister of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Shamko, and a member of the national weightlifting team, Marina Shkermankova.
As is known, the first medal for the national team of the Republic of Belarus at the XXX Olympic Games in London in 2012 was won by Marina Shkermankova from Glubokoye. In interviews with numerous press representatives from various countries, she always mentioned that she took her very first and most important steps in sports in her native Glubokoye, specifically in the sports and games hall located at the city stadium.
It should be noted that Marina is not the only one who has gone from these walls into the world of professional sports. Today, six representatives of the district are part of the national teams of the republic and 28 are part of the regional teams: in volleyball, equestrian sports, weightlifting, boxing, and Greco-Roman wrestling. Artur Udris, Igor Zheltkevich, Denis Petrag, Artem Kisel, Vitaly Cherodnik, Sergey Simanovich, and many others are delighting with their high sporting achievements on the international stage.
For the last two years, the sports and games hall has been closed for technical reasons: the building required major repairs and significant financial investment. The general contractor for the facility, Glubokoye PMK Private Unitary Enterprise, had to replace not only the floor and roof but also reinforce the foundation and walls, using modern materials and technologies, and equip the premises. The builders coped excellently with all this, and the facility looks brand new. A total of 15 billion rubles from the republican, regional, and district budgets were spent on the project.
The honor of cutting the red ribbon for the sports and game hall was given to the Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Vladimir Terentyev and the Chairman of the Glubokoye District Executive Committee Oleg Morkhat. The symbolic key to the facility was presented to Vladimir Buka, director of the district children's and youth sports school of the Olympic reserve.
– Today's event is significant for the district, – emphasized the Chairman of the District Executive Committee Oleg Morkhat in his speech. – Almost everyone knows about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. If we teach children from an early age to appreciate, protect and strengthen their health, if we show this by personal example, then we can hope that future generations will be healthier and more developed not only spiritually and intellectually, but also physically.
– The development of physical culture and sports is a priority task of the state, aimed at strengthening the health of citizens and enhancing the authority of the Republic of Belarus in the international arena, – noted the Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Vladimir Terentyev. – In the last period alone, such sports facilities have been commissioned in the region as a multifunctional hall in Vitebsk, a ski and roller ski track in Novopolotsk, and a center for Olympic rowing in Polotsk. In May-June, the Ice Palace in Orsha and a hall for wrestlers of various styles in Vitebsk will be commissioned. This year, fitness and health complexes in Dokshitsy and Ushachi should also open their doors. In the past year alone, the number of residents of the region involved in sports increased by 10 thousand people and reached 222 thousand. Athletes from the Dvina region won 133 medals last year at various championships, European and world championships. Including 45 gold and 46 silver medals.
Also speaking at the ceremony were: Priest-Prelate Mieczysław, who called the renovated sports and game hall at the stadium a temple of health, Executive Director of the Representative Office of the National Olympic Committee of the Republic of Belarus in Vitebsk Region Viktor Bynkov, who presented the children with a dozen balls, and Director of the Children's and Youth Sports School of the Olympic Reserve Vladimir Buka, who invited the residents of Glubokoye to actively visit the new facility.
Sports facilities in the Glubokoye district are commissioned almost annually. Last year, for example, a swimming pool was put into operation. The plans for this year include the construction of an ice arena. Currently, there are 170 sports facilities, 5 physical culture, sports and tourism institutions, and 58 physical culture groups operating in the district. Last year, over 100 sports events were held, with 4.5 thousand people participating.
The sports and game hall was first tested by children: teams from Luzhki, Sharkovshchina district, and the Glubokoye children's and youth sports school. Who knows, perhaps in time, one of them, like Marina Shkermanova, will ascend to the Olympic podium!
